Kessler Motion Controlled Timelapse Teaser – Oracle, Elektra Drive, CineSlider
I have been testing the Kessler Motion Controlled Timelapse dolly system for the last few days and I am very impressed with the results. The system is very easy to move around, is built well and comes in at a low price point. For the first time, you can achieve Ron Fricke and Tom Lowe quality timelapse movement using DSLRs, digital cine or video cameras capable of shooting interval frames or pictures.
In the next few days, I will be post a very detailed blog about the CineSlider, Oracle controller and the Elektra Drive 500 series stepper motor. This stuff really works and works very well. But for now, watch the quick video blog (at the top of this page) I shot last night in a spooky graveyard in Massachusetts. Please take the time to download the full res 1080p Apple ProRes 422 .mov file of the untouched timelapse rendered down from 446 .jpg images sRGB (5616×3744) from the Canon 5dmk2. You will see just how smooth this system works, moving very slow. Camera settings: Full Manual, 24mm f1.4 wide open, one picture every 22 seconds for 2.5 hours. 20 second long exposure with white balance set at 5600 degrees. Manual focus, ISO 100.

Really nice shot!
Breathtaking shot, Tom. Nice work!
Who falls asleep in a graveyard? Tom Guilmette does.
the grass is well fertilized and very soft.
Very funny and beautiful shot.
Wow, awesome stuff Tom.
I love the cutting edge lighting techniques!
sandwich bags and tshirts. maglights and headlamps. yup, thats how i roll.
I never found more altruistic person than T.G., I wish the other can give away that much really useful informations on their site, books than he does. I love all his nature movies reminding me the
old Hungarian school, keep it up Tom !
P.S. I just don’t know how you can have tons of creative ideas+ web master this site+ work+ sleep
in 24Hr?
i am having trouble mastering it all. need more hours in the day. i want to hire a web person, a twitter person, a sound person, an editor and a masseuse.
“I’m actually a little concerned that the ground is going to turn to quicksand, and these hands are gonna reach up and pull me into the ground”
HAHahhaaaAA!!
BTW, that timelapse looks gorgeous BTW. Looks so good that it almost looks like CG.
never broke eye contact with lens. thats acting!
I downloaded the raw video and it cant play it, i have finalcut studio and i can play other pro Res files, but not this one
strange. it is an apple pro res 422. not HQ or LT. anyone else having trouble?

Pretty creepy but a beautiful shot. You must have spent a fortune on the lighting haha. Is that Vine Lake?
yea, that is vine lake!
Thanks for sharing this Blair Witch Timelapse Project.
Beautiful shot, brilliant lighting !
i have more of these coming! i never thought people would want to see me in front of the camera!
Awesome timelapse Tom, Thanks for sharing how you shot it. You are so inspiring. Sometimes I feel silly standing for a few minutes too long in an awkward place just to get the shot, your sleeping in a graveyard, wow, I gotta get out and shoot more.
ha! believe me, the cops kick me out of places all the time! you just have to go for it sometimes when the time is right and the light is perfect.
Hey, what model battery do you use to run the oracle? I know it’s a Bescor, but what model? Thanks.
Great timelapse….awesome. How do you know how long to set your timelapse and exposure? Is it just trial and error? Thanks!
Next time find a grave stone that says kessler.
