A few months ago, I was hired by COX communications to shoot a behind the scenes video of what it takes to get multi-camera live coverage of college basketball on the air. I normally operate a camera with this crew covering the action for regional television on ESPN or Big East college sports television. There is a huge difference shooting sports at a high frame rate and playing back the action in super slow motion. We are all use to seeing sports covered at 30 frame per second. This goofy, but informative video will show you exactly what it [...] I have this new, crazy idea to always have a 720p point and shoot auto-everything digital video camera with me to capture what I do. I am a broadcast television camera operator and I get to work with cutting-edge HD equipment that costs more money than a three bed room house! It started with black and white television on those old tiny CRT bubble screens set into huge wooden free standing boxes with a speaker across the bottom. The cameras that broadcast a picture to that monster were also beasts. They used vacuum tubes and were the size of a hot water heater. A few weeks ago, I worked on a television remote at Mohegan Sun Casino in Uncasville, Connecticut. The job was to set up three Sony BetaSX cameras in the lobby of the casino and send the pictures from the Connecticut casino to the Comcast Sports Network control room in Burlington, Massachusetts.
