Thanks for the feedback, Tom. Helpful and reassuring. I currently use original HVX200s in my studio -- they've served me well for the last year and a half. I had a chance to play with the PMW-EX1 when it first came to market and I had one of those "D'OH, I like this better that what I'm using" moments. Had the PMW-EX3 in my hands the other day and now I'm in love. Regardless of where I end up, I look forward to experimenting with the Letus in the coming weeks. Thanks again and continued success! - Dave

@David Di Iulio:
Hey David, thanks for checking out my stuff.

I have used the Panasonic HVX200 and I did like it, for the most part. A few problems I had was the price of P2, the resolution of the VF and the layout of the buttons to preform functions. I also did not like the lens as much as the lens on the EX1. The HVX200 camera records with less compression than the XDCAM PMWEX1. The HVX uses DVC PRO HD at 100mbps while the Sony EX1 records at only 35mbps. 100mbps is kinda like "real" HD. At least right now anyway. Of course, buy lots of media if you plan on recording at 100mbps since it sucks down the space. I do like XDCAM (for price and quality) and I think it is here to stay (especially the SxS express34 format and the professional Blu-ray dual layer disks). Plus, XDCAM is now Discovery channel approved for HD broadcast.

Speaking of Phil Bloom, go to his site. He just did a review on the Panasonic HPX-170. You can read it here:
http://philipbloom.co.uk/2008/12/03/review-of-panasonic-hpx-170-171/

I highly recommend the Sony PMW-EX1. I simply love the camera.

Tom. The photography on this is just great. Love the cadence and pacing of the editing. Your film work inspires me much like Philip Bloom's. You make great use of the Letus and of Magic Bullet Looks. Curious if you ever shot with any of the Panasonic HD solid state camcorders. If so, your thoughts. Keep up the great work. - DD, Director of Creative Operations, HBP.
